Royal Caribbean themed and fan sailings for 2027
Fan sailings on Royal Caribbean confirmed by their organizers for 2027, how event groups work, and whether to book with the organizer or direct.

At a glance
- What these are
- Mostly event groups: an organizer reserves a block of cabins on a regular sailing and runs private events for its guests
- Confirmed for 2027 (organizer pages, checked 2026-10-19)
- D20 Cruise (April), Enchanted Cruise (May), GACUCON (August); Battle Barge has a fall window but no ship yet
- Royal Caribbean group threshold
- 8 staterooms for a group reservation (Royal Caribbean FAQ)
- The key rule
- Event access usually comes only with a booking made through the organizer
Most fan sailings on Royal Caribbean are not whole-ship charters. They're event groups: an organizer reserves a block of cabins on a regular sailing, sells each cabin with an event pass, and runs private programming for its own guests while the rest of the ship cruises as usual. That one fact decides how you book, what you get and what you can lose, so it comes first here, before the 2027 list.
Fan sailings on Royal Caribbean in 2027
I only list sailings whose details come from the organizer's own page. Everything below was checked on October 19, 2026. Organizers can change ships, dates and ports, so check the event page again before you pay.
| Event | Dates | Ship | Departs | Ports | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| D20 Cruise 2027 (tabletop RPG) | Apr 9-15, 2027 (6 nights) | Voyager of the Seas | Los Angeles (San Pedro) | Cabo San Lucas (overnight), Ensenada | Confirmed by organizer; the page says the event is 21+ |
| Enchanted Cruise: A Fantasy Ball at Sea 2027 | May 21-28, 2027 (7 nights) | Oasis of the Seas | Cape Liberty, New Jersey | Nassau, Perfect Day at CocoCay | Confirmed by organizer |
| GACUCON 2027 (gaming, anime, cosplay) | Aug 22-28, 2027 (6 nights) | Symphony of the Seas | Not stated on the event page | Perfect Day at CocoCay, Cozumel, Costa Maya | Confirmed by organizer; departure port to confirm |
| Battle Barge 2027 (wargaming) | October-November 2027 window | To be announced | To be announced | To be announced | Deposits open; details pending |
All four are run by the same organizer, Event.Cruises. This list only includes sailings I could confirm on an organizer's own page; I'll add others as their organizers publish details, and I'd rather leave a row out than list a rumor. You'll find each one on my events calendar as well.
D20 Cruise 2027
A tabletop role-playing week: open sessions, worldbuilding, Dungeon Master workshops, miniature painting, a board game library and optional VIP passes for private campaigns with a professional Game Master. Cabin and event-pass bundles are sold together. The event page says the event is 21+, so it's an adults' trip.
Enchanted Cruise 2027
A fantasy-ball sailing from the New York area on one of Royal Caribbean's largest ships. Seven nights with a Nassau call and a day at Perfect Day at CocoCay. The page doesn't give a day-by-day schedule yet, so plan your outfits and formal nights once the organizer publishes it.
GACUCON 2027
Six nights of gaming, anime and cosplay. Each cabin package includes Fan Passes for its guests: shows, scavenger hunts, karaoke, bar crawls, group photoshoots and parties. An optional GACU Club Pass, capped at 100 guests, adds a private club room with a game library, manga library, tournaments and crafts. Packages list gratuities, port taxes and fees as included. The departure port isn't on the event page, so don't book flights until it is.
Battle Barge 2027
A wargaming cruise with a fall 2027 window. Ship, dates and itinerary aren't announced. The organizer takes a $150 per-person deposit that it describes as fully refundable and that gets you early access when cabins go on sale (checked October 19, 2026). It's a reasonable way to hold a place, but don't book flights or time off around a sailing that doesn't have a ship yet.
How an event group works on a regular sailing
On an event group sailing, the organizer controls the event and Royal Caribbean controls the cruise:
- The organizer sells the cabin and event-pass bundle, runs the private programming, sets the event-pass refund rules and decides who gets in. Event.Cruises describes its events as a private function inside the cruise for event-ticket holders, and its block as a group of cabins it reserved.
- Royal Caribbean runs the ship, the ports, the dining and everything else, and its own cruise contract and cancellation penalties still apply to the cabin.
That's different from a full-ship charter, where the organizer takes over the whole ship and its schedule. I explain the difference in more detail in full-ship charter vs. themed group cruise.
Book with the organizer or direct?
Short answer: if the events are why you're going, book with the organizer.
The 2024 Taylor Swift fan sailing shows why. Marvelous Mouse Travels organized it on Allure of the Seas from Miami on October 21, 2024. CNBC reported the block grew from 50 staterooms to 199. Royal Caribbean Blog reported that the themed events were only for guests who booked through the agency. Anyone who booked the same sailing directly with Royal Caribbean was on the right ship and outside the event.
Here's how I'd weigh it:
| Book through the organizer | Book the same sailing direct (or through another advisor) | |
|---|---|---|
| Event access | Included with the event pass | Usually none |
| Private dining or seating with the group | Often coordinated | Event.Cruises says separately booked cabins dine separately from the group |
| Price | Bundled cabin plus pass; compare the cabin part with Royal Caribbean's own fare | Cruise fare only |
| Refunds | Two sets of rules: the organizer's for the pass, Royal Caribbean's for the cabin | Royal Caribbean's rules only |
| Changes | Through the organizer | Through Royal Caribbean or your advisor |
| Good for | Fans who want the programming | Companions who want the ship and the ports, not the events |
Two sets of refund rules. Event.Cruises says the event-pass part of its packages is fully refundable until 30 days before sailing, while the cabin deposit is non-refundable and follows Royal Caribbean's penalty schedule (checked October 19, 2026). Know both deadlines before you pay, and pick travel protection that covers the cruise portion.
Mixed groups. If half your friends want the events and half just want a vacation, ask the organizer whether a cabin can carry fewer passes than guests. Some organizers sell those combinations; others don't.
Where I fit. Some organizers sell only through their own booking system. When that's the case, I'll say so and help with everything around it: flights, the pre-cruise hotel, transfers and a checklist of the organizer's deadlines. When an organizer works with outside travel advisors, I can book it and keep the paperwork in one place.
Planning your own fan group instead
If your community wants its own sailing rather than joining someone else's, Royal Caribbean's group rules are the starting point. Its FAQ sets the minimum for a group reservation at 8 staterooms, books up to 4 staterooms at a time online, and sends larger bookings to its group line or a travel advisor (Royal Caribbean).
A small group of 4 to 12 friends often doesn't need a formal group at all. You can book cabins near each other, line up dining together and plan a meetup or two on board. Once you pass 8 cabins, a formal group reservation is worth asking about. My group travel checklist walks through roles, deadlines and payments.
Picking a cabin on a fan sailing
Event programming usually runs in conference rooms, lounges and theaters, often late into the night. That changes the cabin math:
- Close to the action: a cabin near the forward or aft elevator bank that serves the event spaces saves a lot of walking between sessions.
- Not on top of it: a cabin directly above or below a late-night venue can be loud. Check the deck plan for what sits above and below you.
- Costumes and gear: cosplay, miniatures or ball gowns need storage. A balcony cabin usually has a bit more room than an inside one; compare the stateroom sizes for your ship.

Disney or Royal Caribbean for a fan trip?
If your group is drawn to Disney's own themed days, like Marvel Day at Sea, the trip works very differently: Disney runs the program itself and it's included in the fare. Marvel Day at Sea is covered in my Marvel Day at Sea 2027 guide, and my side-by-side comparison of the two lines is in the related guides below.
How I can help
I'll read the organizer's rules with you, compare the bundle against the plain cruise fare, line up the deadlines and plan the travel around the sailing. Tell me what you're considering on the themed cruise planning page.
Pedro may be paid by travel suppliers through commissions when eligible bookings are made through advisor-supported channels. Planning fees may apply for complex, group or research-heavy trips, and any fee is disclosed before paid planning begins. Planning fees don't apply to Florida residents.
Event details were checked against each organizer's page on October 19, 2026. Organizers and Royal Caribbean can change ships, dates, ports, prices and policies; confirm everything with the organizer before you pay.

Frequently asked questions
Does Royal Caribbean run its own fan or themed cruises?
The fan sailings in this guide are run by outside organizers on regular Royal Caribbean sailings. The organizer reserves a block of cabins and runs its own private events for the guests who booked through it.
Can I book the same sailing directly with Royal Caribbean and still go to the events?
Usually not. For the 2024 Taylor Swift fan sailing, the themed events were only for guests who booked through the organizing agency. Event.Cruises describes its events as a private function for event-pass holders. Ask the organizer before you book anywhere else.
Are event passes refundable?
It depends on the organizer. Event.Cruises says the event-pass part of its packages is fully refundable until 30 days before sailing, while the cabin deposit follows Royal Caribbean's own penalty schedule. Read each organizer's terms.
How many cabins make a group on Royal Caribbean?
Royal Caribbean's FAQ sets the minimum for a group reservation at 8 staterooms. Its website books up to 4 staterooms at a time; larger bookings go through Royal Caribbean by phone or a travel advisor.
