On October 13, 2026, Oriental Land Co. named the first ship of Disney Cruise Line Japan: Disney Imagination. It is scheduled to debut in spring 2029 from the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal.
The ship is built for the Japanese market. Nothing has been announced about itineraries, pricing, or when reservations open, so there is nothing to book yet.
What makes Disney Imagination different
It is the first Disney cruise ship to sail from Japan, and Oriental Land will operate it rather than Disney Cruise Line directly. Disney describes Disney Cruise Line Japan as a Disney-branded business run by Oriental Land, the company that operates Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea under license from Disney.
Disney calls it the newest ship in the Wish class. The company says the ship aims to give Japanese guests a Disney vacation at sea, and it has not described any changes to the Wish-class design.
The one design detail released so far is the stern artwork. Ariel and Sebastian from The Little Mermaid are shown painting the ship's name, with Ariel using her dinglehopper as the brush.
Oriental Land's announcement gave an early look at the onboard layout:
- A theater with more than 1,300 seats
- Outdoor deck stage shows with Disney characters
- About 30 food and beverage venues, including three themed main restaurants
- Children's program areas and adults-only spaces
Reports based on Japanese press coverage put the ship at roughly 140,000 tons, with about 1,250 cabins and room for up to 4,000 guests. Disney and Oriental Land have not published these numbers, so treat them as press reporting.
Where and when it sails
The primary homeport is the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal, and the ship is planned to run year-round in Japan. Spring 2029 is the debut window, and no exact date has been announced.
Japanese press reports describe short voyages of two to four nights. Disney has said itineraries will be announced later, so confirm the length before planning around it. The same reports say reservations should open roughly six months before the ship enters service. That would put sales in late 2028 if the schedule holds, but it is an expectation and not an announced date.
Meyer Werft in Germany is building the ship. Construction is reported to begin in 2027, and trade reports put delivery in late 2028, a few months before the debut.
What this means if you are planning from the US
I would hold off on building anything around this ship for now. These open questions will decide whether it fits your trip:
- Can guests outside Japan book it, and through which channels? I have not seen anything on this.
- What currency and price range will fares use? Japanese press has quoted yen fares, and nothing has been confirmed in dollars.
- Will the short sailings pair with time at Tokyo Disney Resort? That is my guess about how guests might use them, not an announced package.
If you want a Disney sailing sooner, the Disney Adventure began sailing from Singapore in March 2026. It is the first Disney ship to sail exclusively from Asia, which makes it a closer comparison for how Disney sails in that region. My Disney World and Disney cruise guide covers pairing a Disney cruise with a park trip.
What to verify before booking
Source checked on October 20, 2026: Disney, Oriental Land, and the press coverage listed under Sources.
Confirm the exact debut date, itineraries, fares and currency, who can book, the booking window, and entry requirements for Japan based on your citizenship. Details can change between announcement and launch, and some of the figures above come from press reports and not from Disney.

Advisor note
Details of ships announced this far ahead often change. I suggest writing down what matters to your group (who is traveling, how many nights you can spare, how you feel about a long flight) and waiting for itineraries before you spend time on cabins or flights.
